The Academy Board of Directors is currently looking for individuals interested in joining the Board.  We are looking to fill the following vacancies:

  • Class A (4-year term effective from date of activation through 6/30/20).
Experience in marketing or business is preferred but not required.  Participation on a Board committee (Academic or Finance) is highly encouraged.

Please submit your letter of intent, including your background information, why you are interested in joining the Board, and special skills you may bring to Lisa Boyer, Executive Assistant Manager and Board Recording Secretary.

Meetings of the Board of Directors


Board meetings are typically held at the Main Campus Summit (Tutor Center) on the last Monday of the month the school is in session.  All meetings are open to the public, and your attendance is welcome.

Meeting agendas are posted 24 hours in advance in the front entryway in the communication board.  For issues involving personnel, contracts, or other sensitive matters, the Board may vote by a two-thirds majority to adjourn to Executive Session during the regularly scheduled Board Meeting agenda.

The Academy Board is governed by a single elected Board of Directors.  The Academy includes Elementary School (Pre-K – 6), Junior High School (7-8) and High School (9-12).

The primary responsibility of the Board of Directors (BOD) is the governance of the school, development of positive community relations, preserving The Academy mission and vision, and is accountable to teachers, parents, students, and the community for maintaining the intent of the Charter.

Implementation of the policies, procedures and daily operations are the responsibility of The Academy’s administration.  The Board of Directors (BOD) meets once a month to examine operations, establish new policies, review and change existing policies as needed.

Requests, concerns and information items may be offered by parents, students, and teachers for public discussion during a community comment period at any regular BOD meeting.

Joe Zamora - Chair

Joe Zamora was born and raised in the North Denver Metro area, graduated from Ranum High School, and received a business degree with an emphasis in finance from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado.  Joe is married and has three children that began their schooling at the Academy in kindergarten.  Currently serving as Vice President of Finance, Joe has been with Starz, a global media and entertainment company headquartered in Englewood, CO, for over 17 years.  Joe has served on the Finance Committee of the Academy since September 2012, and is active in community events through his church.  Joe has been a member of The Academy Board of Directors since September, 2013.

Tamela Miller-Carlson has one child in the secondary at the Academy and her family has been an Academy Wildcats since 2005.  She has served on the Academy Board since May 2012 and is the current chair of the Board.  Ms. Miller-Carlson holds her CPA license in Colorado and worked as an auditor and consultant in public accounting for 13 years.  For the past 13 years Ms. Miller-Carlson has served the American Indian College Fund as the Chief Financial and Operations Officer.  Her operational experience includes developing and managing budgets, analyzing operational effectiveness, implementing organizational restructures, marketing, program management, grant writing, and investment management.  Ms. Miller-Carlson's community involvement includes and has included serving on the Board for Attention Homes, political campaigns, coaching youth soccer and basketball, and volunteering for A Precious Child and Colorado House Rabbit Society.  Ms. Miller-Carlson believes inside every child is ingenuity, confidence, skill, and passion and together we can support every Academy child discover and develop theirs.
Jessica Laszlo - Secretary

Prior to becoming a stay home parent to four children I was a preschool teacher for 4 years and the Director of the preschool for 2 years. I have a master's degree in educational psychology and my early childhood teaching license. We have been at the Academy since 2009, and currently have 4 children enrolled in the school. I have been an active classroom volunteer and member of the academic committee. Besides loving my kids and The Academy, I also LOVE the Green Bay Packers.
Julia Robinson - Member

Mrs. Robinson has been a self employed optometrist in the area since 1998.  She is the proud mom of two sons who have attended The Academy since kindergarten. The eldest was part of the inaugural year kindergarten class at our current main campus.  Julia volunteered in a variety of ways through the years at The Academy, including starting the cow's eye dissection program for 3rd graders with her husband, Dr. Rik Olson.  She has been a member of The Academy Board of Directors since July 2009. In her spare (?) time, she enjoys spending time with her family including cheering on their boys in sports, playing games together, skiing, snorkeling, and hiking. Julia is an avid Indiana University basketball fan, and Peyton Manning fan! 
Michael Stock - Member

Michael was raised in the north Denver metro area, graduating from Northglenn High School, and he is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of the Leeds school of business at the University of Colorado at Boulder.  Michael has worked in the healthcare technology field for 16+ years with a background in systems consulting, operations management and research and development.  As an associate with Accenture, Michael worked with healthcare based clients to select, implement and operate software systems to run their business.  With the TriZetto Corporation; a healthcare software and services corporation, he held responsibility for the production operations of over 60 applications, run on behalf of over 30 healthcare payer companies, $70M in revenue and $45M in direct expense.  Currently serving as an Associate VP of Application Management Services with TriZetto, Michael is responsible for services product management, service development and R&D.  He is married and the father of two daughters who have attended The Academy, from Kindergarten and from the inaugural year of Pre-K.  Michael has been a member of The Academy Board of Directors since June, 2011.
Greg Weaver - Treasurer

Greg and his wife have two children attending The Academy.  He grew up in Pennsylvania and London but has lived in Colorado since high school.  Greg attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and graduated with a B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering.  He also has an MBA and an M.S. in Accounting from the University of Colorado at Denver.  Greg has worked in the aerospace and telecommunications industries for Lockheed Martin and Avaya.  He currently works at DigitalGlobe testing satellite ground system software.  Greg served as The Academy PTO President, and he has been a member of the Finance Committee since September 2014.  Greg has been a member of The Academy Board of Directors since July 2016.
